Santa Barbara International Show Spring 2006

Report on the 2006 Santa Barbara International Orchid Show

I would like to begin the show report by commending our own Al and Sandy Svoboda for their work with the show. Despite ill health (and we wish Al all the best!) Al has been show president. Sandy Svoboda was this year's assistant show manager. They've also organized the Cymbidium Society of America Congress.

OSSB volunteers also came through on the society's display and sales booth; OSSB is very grateful to Santa Barbara Orchid Estate for splitting the booth fee with the society. Thanks go to Phil and Angela Watt for taking time off from work to be at the society's sales booth for the duration of the show. Thanks also to all the volunteers who made our sales booth so financially successful. Thanks to Jeff Thompson for all the hard work he put in to create the society's display, with help and/or plants from a number of society members, including Gene Hagerty, Carol Rogers, Santos Ojeda, Don Brown, Frank Methmann, Norm Wieder, Joe Rubin, Don Thorn,Ed and Shirlie Carter, Fred Lukas, and some names I'm sure I missed. Particular thanks to Randall Umland and Elizabeth Ralston for their artistic plant placement which made our display really delightful. Congratulations to all the trophy and ribbon winners; trophy winners who are members of our society are marked with a ►.
